We are hounored to be able present a guest post by the renowed geneologist R' Yehuda Aharon Horovitz. R' Horovitz has extensive knowlegde in the geneolgy of Western European Rabbonim, and has published the Teshuvos of his estemed atcedent, Reb Yakkov Ettlinger, the Aruch Lner.

R' Horovitzs' post is some pointers about the great staure of Reb Asher, the son of the Shagas Aryeh, and is published here in hebrew. At a latter date we will iy"h transalte it.

כמה נקודות בגדלותו של ר' אשר, בנו של השאגת ארי

א] בתו של רבי אשר נישאה לת"ח גדול הוא הג"ר אלכסנדר אראן רבה של פגרסהיים, שחידש בתורה ועמד במו"מ של תורה כל ימיו בשומר ציון הנאמן ובהלבנון.
דרך אגב גם הוא חיתן את בתו לרב גדול באלזס. והמשפחה הקימה דורות ישרים.

ב] בנו של רבי אשר היה הג"ר אברהם שכיהן כרב של קהילה בגרמניה ויש בידי רישום מצבתו משם.

ג] בנו רבי אריה ליב שימשו בגרמניה ואף רשם ומסר מחידושיו.

ד] גדולי דורו התייחסו אליו בהערכה כה גדולה, עי' לדוגמא דברי הנו"ב [קובץ בית אהרן וישראל גליון נג].
והחת"ס [בהסכמתו על הגבורת ארי הוצאת רבי גרשון אמסטרדם מווילנא וכו'] ועוד.

ה] היה אדם מלומד בשפות והתעניין במדעים.

ו] מתלמידיו של רבי אשר צמחו גדולי ישראל של מערב אירופה כמו הערוך לנר ועוד.
